VolleyFest Weekend Update

Another great showing for Downstate this Presidents’ Day Weekend!!!

Downstate North 15 Cobras finished third in open, 14 Cobras finished 5th in Club.

Downstate 16 Blue finished 3rd in Club, while 15 White took third in Open.

16 Gold lost in the semis of Silver finishing 9th in the Club division.

Director Dan Altro had this to say about the DAC 18 Boys:

“We had a great weekend. Played some really good volleyball!  Had our rough spots but the future is looking awesome! Played very strong against some tough competition!!  You can really see the overall improvement of our team and boys’ program overall, each year!!  Can’t wait to see how much more we develop by the end of season!”

17 Red lost in a Silver final, 3- setter.  Coach Young called it “a Tremendous fight!”.

Coach Pitt’s 16 Red came up a little short in the Gold bracket but managed to secure a Bronze medal!

Coach Dennis had this to say about his 15 Pythons:

“We went a noteworthy 5-2 for the weekend, winning the Flight 1 bracket. They missed the Bronze bracket by only a few points. In pool play, we had a 3-way tie with a record 2-1, but the points just got us. We beat the team.., who beat the team.., who beat us.

Extremely proud of this team and how well they played!”

Congratulations to our 15 Red team who won the Gold bracket at VolleyFest-Springfield! Awesome job, girls!

Coach Kurt shared what an absolute awesome showing this weekend was:

“This weekend was truly a team effort.  We struggled through two injuries which forced us to have move players around. Still, the girls stuck together and stepped up. They didn’t back down- even in the finals when they fought for every point, together til the end!”

Congrats also to our 16 Mirage who finished 2nd in Gold at VolleyFest-Springfield! Way to go, Mirage!

Coach Allison who coaches both our 16 Pythons and Boys Cobras had this to say about her teams:

16 Pythons:

“Our best tournament all year! We finished 1st in our flight. We competed hard against a really athletic and tall CT Juniors team in the finals of our flight. You can tell they were having fun but also staying together as a unit the whole time. We served aggressively and our defense was top notch”

Cobras Boys:

“We played some competitive New England teams and beat teams that we lost too in our first tournament! The love and support from other downstate teams and parents was tremendous as we competed throughout the weekend and was a big reason we stayed in matches. This was a great weekend to see how high our ceiling is!”

Coach Donnie and his 16 Vipers won their flight this weekend. Great job, girls!! Coach had this to say:

“It was nice to win my first finals and even more special to win it with this team. They have overcome a lot of obstacles to get here and through hard work, teamwork, communicating, and bonding, it finally paid off.  We made it!!!

No cellphones = success ”

It is always really awesome to see Downstate supporting Downstate. Here are our girls watching the 18 Cobras Boys play right before they won the match!

Congratulations to all our Downstate Teams from this past weekend.

Good luck this upcoming weekend to our teams competing at tournaments in Boston and Florida!

Go Downstate!!
