Jim Thompson - Founder, Positive Coaching Alliance
“There are only two groups of people whose job is to win games,” says Thompson. “Coaches and players. Parents have a much more important job: to guide their child’s character development.”
2008 US Women's National Team Asst. Coach
2011 Girls’ Select A2 Head Coach
Do you have any advice to offer parents? Getting your kids involved in team sports is a gift you give them for life. Volleyball is a game that instills confidence, commitment, teamwork, strategic thinking and so much more. Once they’re in sports, parents can never be too positive when supporting them. After a great game or a rough match, players are looking for positivity and understanding and support. Nothing beats a hug from mom and dad.
Kids don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.

"The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." -Vince Lombardi

Downstate's Saturday Youth League is back by popular demand! Beginning on July 12th, we will be running a league from 10am to 12pm for 7 weeks.
Each week, our coaching staff will go over some fundamental skills before setting up games where players will have fun competing. A modified scoring format will ensure all players get lots of touches on the ball while still learning the game. You can sign up with friends to form a team of your own or sign up as an individual and be placed on a team.
The cost of the league is just $75 for the entire 7 week session, or $525 to register a team (approx. 8 players). No experience necessary!
The 2014 Saturday Youth League will take place on the following dates:
