    Adult Open Gym

Downstate hosts adult open gym, every Friday, from 7:30p to midnight. We have 4 courts of co-ed volleyball, at varying skill levels - come join the fun!

Jim Thompson - Founder, Positive Coaching Alliance

“There are only two groups of people whose job is to win games,” says Thompson. “Coaches and players. Parents have a much more important job: to guide their child’s character development.”

    TOM HOGAN
2008 US Women's National Team Asst. Coach
2011 Girls’ Select A2 Head Coach

Do you have any advice to offer parents? Getting your kids involved in team sports is a gift you give them for life. Volleyball is a game that instills confidence, commitment, teamwork, strategic thinking and so much more. Once they’re in sports, parents can never be too positive when supporting them. After a great game or a rough match, players are looking for positivity and understanding and support. Nothing beats a hug from mom and dad.

Kids don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.

    2014 Summer Saturday Youth League

    06/02/2014, 4:30pm EDT
    By Staff

    For 5th Through 8th Graders

Downstate's Saturday Youth League is back by popular demand! Beginning on July 12th, we will be running a league from 10am to 12pm for 7 weeks.

Each week, our coaching staff will go over some fundamental skills before setting up games where players will have fun competing. A modified scoring format will ensure all players get lots of touches on the ball while still learning the game. You can sign up with friends to form a team of your own or sign up as an individual and be placed on a team.

The cost of the league is just $75 for the entire 7 week session, or $525 to register a team (approx. 8 players). No experience necessary!

The 2014 Saturday Youth League will take place on the following dates:

    July 12

    July 19

    July 26

    August 2

    August 9

    August 16

    August 23

“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything.” - Muhammad Ali

At the Penn State Tournament, CJVA 13s came to cheer on our Downstate 13s team. When they arrived, they realized that the Downstate dad that always starts the "Downstate Hoo-Rah" cheer was not there. So, Ana Colegreco started the cheer for them and all of the parents joined in. From that point on, whenever one team was off and the other was playing, the other girls came and did each other's team cheers. Great demonstration of sportsmanship in our region!
