Jim Thompson - Founder, Positive Coaching Alliance

“There are only two groups of people whose job is to win games,” says Thompson. “Coaches and players. Parents have a much more important job: to guide their child’s character development.”

2011 Girls’ Select A2 Head Coach

Do you have any advice to offer parents? Getting your kids involved in team sports is a gift you give them for life. Volleyball is a game that instills confidence, commitment, teamwork, strategic thinking and so much more. Once they’re in sports, parents can never be too positive when supporting them. After a great game or a rough match, players are looking for positivity and understanding and support. Nothing beats a hug from mom and dad.

Kids don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.

    in an all Downstate Final!

Congratulations  to Coach Young and his team Downstate Aspire 13 Blue for becoming the Centre Moriches tournament champions!!!  Aspire 13 Blue started as team of young ladies inspiring to improve their volleyball skills  and to develop a team spirit at  Downstate Juniors VBC.  After placing first in pool play with a record of 6-1, Aspire 13 Blue played an exciting final match, scoring 25-14, 14-25, and took the championship in a final set 18-16.

Coach Young has made this possible for his team Aspire 13 Blue and the results of numerous practice and tournament engagements has lead to the individual team members to connect as a one team and to understand the fundamentals of tournament level volleyball play. The matches between Downstate 13 Black and Aspire 13 Blue was an example of what team development is at Downstate Juniors VBC. The volleys during the matches were exceptionally intense and the skills demonstrated was a direct result of the coaching the went into these two teams.

The strategy Coach Young communicated during the final match to his team Aspire 13 Blue was absorbed by the team like water in the desert and a sense of team spirit prevailed. It was an extremely electrifying  match to watch and we can only imagine what these young ladies felt  when the final point was scored and Aspire 13 Blue became the tournament champions!!

    GO 13 Blue!!!

16 White Takes 1st Place at CNR!

16 White made a good run in pool play, going 6–2 in set wins-losses, finishing the initial round in first.  Both losses came at the hands of LIVBC 16 Gold 24–26, 26–28.  We would see them in later in the Finals, with something to prove.

In the finals, our team was confident and energized.  It was our time to finish on top, and we did decisively 25–13, 25–17!

Great job ladies!  Let's keep it going!!
