Jim Thompson - Founder, Positive Coaching Alliance
“There are only two groups of people whose job is to win games,” says Thompson. “Coaches and players. Parents have a much more important job: to guide their child’s character development.”

Do you have any advice to offer parents? Getting your kids involved in team sports is a gift you give them for life. Volleyball is a game that instills confidence, commitment, teamwork, strategic thinking and so much more. Once they’re in sports, parents can never be too positive when supporting them. After a great game or a rough match, players are looking for positivity and understanding and support. Nothing beats a hug from mom and dad.
For those who have been distracted by the often-depressing news at the very top of the American sports pyramid, stories such as the New Orleans Saints bounty program, the vicious hits in the NHL and NBA and the Roger Clemens trial, I'd like to remind you of what youth sports have to offer:
First, Congratulations to all the teams on another wonderful season! Our end of season banquet is right around the corner. For the second year, our celebration will be held at the Westchester Broadway Dinner Theater. It is a fun night for the girls to get dressed up and be recognized for their efforts and achievements from the season. We will be having a silent auction with gift baskets donated by each team. In the past we have had some very nice baskets which have generated a good amount of money to help in paying for the teams going to Nationals. Each team is requested to donate a gift basket. Example of previous baskets donated are: Beach theme, BBQ theme, Lottery, Movie, Theater tickets, Sporting event tickets, Golf outings, etc… Please bring your team basket to the banquet.

Congratulations to Olivia Jebb, an OH on Downstate 18 Black, who was recently named a PrepVolleyball.com Academic All American. The national award is given to high school seniors who are both sensational students and volleyball players. Olivia was named to the second team due to these outstanding credentials:
